🌱 A FANTASTIC FIRST GARDENING VOLUNTEER MORNING! 🌱

What a brilliant start on Sat 29th August 2026 ! 💚

We’ve just finished our first gardening volunteer morning in the Peace Garden at Alexandra Park, and our small but mighty team of 5 volunteers achieved an amazing amount in just 2.5 hours!

🌧️ And we did it in the rain! The rain over the last week has actually been very helpful, loosening the roots of the weeds and making them easier to remove as we worked our way through the bed. 🌱

Together we cleared and de-weeded around a third (almost half) of the middle bed, beginning the work of giving this beautiful part of the Peace Garden some much needed care. 🌿🙌

Our focus is to tidy and restore the bed, uncovering the wonderful mosaics so they can be seen and enjoyed again. The mosaics will then undergo restoration by our friends at Hastings Voluntary Action. We’ll also move onto clearing other beds in the Peace garden and planting new spring bulbs ready to bring fresh colour to the garden next year. 🌷🌼

A huge thank you to our five volunteers for all the hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork today. What a difference a morning can make!

We’ll be meeting again for more gardening sessions. Friends of Alexandra Park members will receive details by email, and we’ll share updates here on our socials too.

We’re currently starting with Saturday mornings, but we’re also working towards introducing a weekday morning option so more people can get involved.
