The historic grade 11* listed  Alexandra Park is a major asset to Hastings and St. Leonards.  Covering 110 acres, its green and tranquil environment is home to 77 of the champion trees in the UK . The park includes a boating lake, additional lakes with wild life, arts buildings, bandstand, river, flower gardens, bowling green, woodland, lawns, ornamental beds, two cafes and war memorial. The park was restored with Heritage Lottery funding in 2004. The park was planted in 1877 by Robert Marnock and opened in 1882 by the Prince and Princess of Wales (Princess Alexandra). Robert Marnock (1800-89) was a Scottish landscape gardener, designer, curator, nurseryman, head gardener, garden writer and editor. Over his long career he became one of the most productive and sought-after landscape gardeners of the nineteenth century. An album of photographs was presented to Princess Alexandra by Robert Marnock.

Robert Marnock, a friend and  associate of Decimus Burton, these exceptional men worked together on a number of projects enhancing towns, parks and gardens in London, the south east and beyond. Sheffield Botanical Garden is a spectacular landscape project Robert Marnock undertook which opened in 1836. Well done Hastings Council for commissioning one of the best right here in the heart of 1066 country.
